Dr. Horwhat joined LGI and LGPC after serving as the associate chief of gastroenterology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and as an associate professor of medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He previously served as a consultant to the Surgeon General of the United States Army for gastroenterology.

Dr. Horwhat is a recipient of the Order of Military Medical Award and a Master Teacher Award by the William Beaumont Society of Gastroenterologists. Widely published, Dr. Horwhat authored 29 peer reviewed articles, four book chapters and thirty-two abstracts. He is currently a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

A graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, Dr. Horwhat completed an internship in internal medicine at Madigan Army Medical Center and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center/National Naval Medical Center. He did additional training in advanced endoscopy at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Horwhat is a fellow of both the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
